a bad word whispered echoes a hundred miles.

HOw easy is it nowadays to throw things away when it is past its useby date, or when you no longer have a need for something. Well, My local coucil wants to throw away thousands of dollars worth of money, but trashing our lewis park skate bowl !!  They have made another, away over in knoxfield, with little to entice the new skater or learner.  Our “old ” bowl has history. It has benefited and made seasoned skaters out of many many local kids as well as those whove travelled to it. It has a community. There is a community of skaters who’ve learnt and loved the art through countless thousands of hours of practice there. They have Held wakes there and honored ” Bowl” friends who have passed on. They have made countless friends and mentored new riders and skaters who come there with the same purpose, this community has a passion.

They have been at the mercy of council decisions to what their welfare is. Thousands of dollars spent on a vert ramp ! Installed at Rowville instead of the bowl. Residents didn’t want it, Bowl particpants begging for it. Transported to the council yards where it rusted for a year or two. Still the residents begged for it. Thousands of dollars supposedly to transport it, and finally the Knox bowl scored it as theirs !!!  Knox city has a revamp and amp offer to spend money on installing a new skate park. two years of ” talks” and plans. Skaters and bikeriders were tentavly asked for input- jollied along. But for some reason, this park at the back of knox city didn’t go ahead, instead its been installed at knoxfield.

But back at lewis park, the skaters and bike riders continue to sweep the bowl out of the debris that blows in from nearby shady gums. They continue to enjoy the comaradie they have always had with others using the park. Mums and dads still bring their littlies down to test out new scooters and bikes on the gentle learning slopes.

And word is, that council says it costs too much to maintain. So at a cost far in excess of what it will cost to do minimal maintenance, they will trash this little oasis of our locals who are so passionate about what they do best.
In my opinion, shame on Knox council !! Youve failed your community . This isn’t a case of improvement, its a case of sheer waste. And I appallingly, pay rates for your folly.

A conversation with a workmate had us in fits of laughter at the strange things people say.  Her mother inlaw cant seem to say filthy, instead she says Thilthy, and it drives my workmate crazy, the mother inlaw finds lots of thilthy things to moan about, and my w/mate wants to scream at her- ” its FILTHY’!!! 

I once worked for someone who -conversated- with people, she was also -conversating- with people, it took all my concentration not to laugh.

Hi All !! I’ve been up to the snowy mountains and refreshed and rested am back on deck. The wonderful scenery has soothed the senses. The artist side of me, was enthralled at the beautiful scenes set before me. Coming down through khancoban, just hills and hils of beautiful violet. One unforgettable scene was a field of violet with a backdrop of willow trees, and a focal of two black and white cows. The horticulturist side of me, of course was horrified- pattersons curse although a beautiful shade of mauve or violet, just takes over and spreads like mad.

And can you believe, lake hume covered in grass with cows feeding on it ?? I had to blink twice, and make the brain register, that , there was meant to be water gracing that valley.  Oh well……….we have to accept change and just hope that all will be restored.

O.k, Here’s the story. I work near by to a chemist that dispenses methadone. No problem so far. I’m all for it, it has been a godsend to many families and drug addicts.

I believe that Chemists are paid alot of money to dispense the methadone, and so they should it’s a responsibility, it does bring, many a time, bad elements into their businesses. ( I’ve given my thoughts on this before, that I think it should be dispensed in a factory area where it doesnt bring bad elements to strip shopping)
What is concerning me is I see a person arriving daily for their “Cordial” and am flabbergasted that they come out carrying a plastic cup. Get into their car, rub it on their gums ( for quick absorbtion) Hand it to the passenger who also has a share of the liquid. And then drive off, with the a littly in the back seat…..assuming with liquid still in cup. Hope its not sitting in the fridge at home………could be a disaster if the tot got to the fridge or the plastic cup in any way.

Does anyone know if there is a controlling body, that one may ring, because I dont think this chemist is excercising his duty of care here.

Or should I just go about my work, stick my head in the sand and live by the rule, it doesn’t affect me.

Has the nook been left to one admin staff and he/she is over it?? If so……….fess up. 

You know we all keep coming in here, hoping to see some posts, and tonight its like a ghost town. Frozen in time. So………..what gives????? I’ve dealt with the fact the exhbition isn’t happening. That was of good intent. But, I want to know should I wait with excitement for nook to come alive??  Or should I wither away with it now as are my new found nook friends. 

You obviously had a passion for the nook at one stage - why else would you have made the effort to come to yarra glen, So what has changed in between time?  

I for one, would appreciate an honest answer on what is the fate of Nook, plus if you dont mind, a time  day to pick up my artwork from leader .

Doesn’t anyone design beautiful buildings anymore?, when was the last time you looked at a building and thought, isn’t that beautiful?? 

Drove  out of knox hospital the other day and glanced across the road, to the ugliest sight, I think I’ve seen in ages. The new rehab and paliative care hospital, has a part of the building done in some sort of material that is just awful. Picture a packet of plasticine ( if you youngies know what that is- olden day colourful playdoe laid in logs) flatten it all together and then stretch it.  And then it looks like some lego house, no actually lego is neater than this.

It got me thinking, who has the say on these decisions? I would have thought that someone needing palliative care would feel more nurtured in a calming colour rather than Yellow, red and green. 

Has any thought gone into this building, like, how will it relate to society in 20 years, will it date?  But then again, we are a throwaway society, aren’t we??? It will probably be pulled down in 20 years and something else whipped up in its place.

I am really stirring the memory bank for that era, I can remember a girlfriend lusting after George Michael ( that was wasteful) . What was I doing that I have such a sketchy memory of the 80’s ??  Possibly raising kids at that time may have stripped my ability to recall the music of the day.

I struggle because, we had such legends in the 70’s, skyhooks, sherbert, acdc, susi quatro…….oh they were the days. but the 80’s??

Well, I’ve finally come up with Cyndi Lauper and girls just want to have fun !

But maybe if you want to share your favorite, it may just jog my memory.
