Knowledge is power.
Published 1 year, 6 months ago in My life.Well they say knowledge is power, I’m living proof to dispute that. You see myself and my workmate, decided to join our favorite radio stations footy tipping. Just to liven up the week of course. Now you may have guessed by now that I barrack for collingwood….I do……..yay collingwood…there, I belong. I know nathan buckley is captain,( and my budgies name) and I know he has a crook, somethingand is not playing. But, mmmmmmmmm, thats about it. My workmate barracks for essendon, yay essendon! but thats about all she knows. So we have a great time, picking our selection, we discuss the wet. we discuss injuries, we discuss, who won most last year ( they give a guide, that we dont really take attention of)
Well go figure, we are 3rd out of 542 people. What a laugh, were equal 2nd really except for our margin whatever that is( I just know it as a red line I used to rule down the page in primary school)
Hubby has advised me to barrack with my heart and vote with my head. NOT !! He stares at me incredulously on anzac day when the pies won, and I announced we’d taken them in the tipping, he told me, no one would have picked the pies ! We did, I replied. He just shakes his head. He does that alot. Especially yesterday when I told him we had got 7 again this week.
One of the other girls at work is in the same tipping thing but doing it from home. She shakes her head at us too. she tried to tell me that collingwood, just shouldn’t have won, with all their injuries. I said, pet, I said dear…dont try and educate me. They say the winners are always someone who knows nothing about football. And by the way at number 450 you just cant begin to give us advise. But she kept on and on, trying to give me a crash course in why and who will win this next coming week……….I just put my hands over my ears and sung lah, lah, lah, lahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh . You know, I’ve even stopped watching street talk on the footy show, in case it jinxes me. You know, I never realised how much fun footy can be.

Welcome to Collingwood, the religion. It’s a system of meaning and belief. Have fun with the Victora Park fans - they are one of a kind - and in a sad type of way - distinctly Melburnian!!!!
Couldn’t agree more, knowledge is not power at all!
My wife started footy tipping at her new job last year playing against many ‘professional’ and knowledgable AFL followers. There are 44 people in the comp and she came 3rd. She is tipping again this year and is currently in 4th place. She barracks for the Bombers but doesn’t know much more than that.
A friend at work follows AFL religiously. He is the most knowledgable person I know when it comes to AFL. I asked him if he is in a tipping comp. He said no he knows too much the game, the players, the injuries, everything etc; He said it distorts his judgment.
I just cant stop thinking how damn humourous it is, but only the part where people like your friend at work jadmorffier, get sooooooooooooo angry, like we should be banned from the tipping. Footy heathens !!! Like its a game !! thats all we are doing is playing. So to us its pretty funny. We posted our tips today. once again we discussed who was playing where, went into fits of laughter again, when we didn’t even know one of the ovals………it started with s. I’ll let you know next week, how we did. And I voted with my heart and took the pies.
Hahah good stuff winnierose! I am a fellow Magpie as well but I don’t follow the game much really. I only watch it when it’s on Channel 10 in High Definition haha. Maybe I should get into some tipping myself; looks like it could be very promising for me lol.
Would you leave your tips on here every Friday Morning? My wife is 3 ahead of me and I want to catch up!!! The first year I tipped I went on the Essendon competition and got 2nd prize, Presidents Lunch at Telstra Dome for two and sat on the interchange during the game! Now I’m lucky if I’m in the top 25%.
Tipping competitions are terrible because you have to try like buggery to win and when you try too hard, you go terribly and when you do try and muck up, it’s demoralising.
Confucius say “Those that can Do, Those that cannot Teach, and those that cannot Teach, Teach teachers”. So much for knowledge.
‘winnierose’ you can continue doing it. The rest of them, let them Teach.
