Having a constructive whinge.
Published 1 year, 5 months ago in My life.O.k. I hate whinging. Big time. But someones gotta do it, so today its my turn. Now I do hold the thought that if youre going to whinge, you should have constructive critisicm to follow alongside it. So, I’ve mulled my whinge over and over, and over, mind you, many times, and I’m ready to share. I’ve been living in my fair city for quite a while. And so have seen lots of changes, as you do. I’ve seen families move in and families move out. And now I notice the once lovely family home down on the corner, or the well manicured place that the quiet man lived in, well, they are all rented out, and they are unloved to say the least. And I shrug and say, well, if people who rent are’nt house proud and don’t do the garden, thats there perogative. But, when the hedges start hanging way way over the footpath, and daisy bushes turn into big sloppy messes, and when you cant fit the dog and you side by side on the foot path, or worse you get whipped with wet branches, thats when I go……..grumble, grumble.!! So my solution is……And its a good one, its a way council can make more money, they’d make so much money they could drop our rates. I think they could fine the rental agents if the boundaries are overgrown. Like c’mon, someone has to be responsible. ???? The houses would look neat and tidy again. I can walk the foot path and not have to resort to single file as you pass someone.

It is the homeowners responsibility to keep the footpath clear, Ring the council and complain. They will give the owner/occupier a warning and if they don’t do it the council will, and probably charge them for the labour.
Brilliant idea. I think the council have some sort of a policy on overhanging trees or bushes blocking the pathway, but it could be worth emailing them to find out, or even suggest your idea. I think if you google the name of your local council (e.g. Knox city council”) you can find their website and how to contact them.
First let me say I’m a renter and I like my garden and tend to it reasonably well, but I know there are renters and property owners that don’t.
I’ve always thought that there should be an ugly tax on properties that aren’t maintained. The owners should be penalised for having an eyesore and the fact it devalues an area and ruins the ambience. The money made could be put into upgrading local parks and gardens.
We had a landlord once who gave us a rental reduction if we mowed the lawns and maintained the gardens, it would be great if more landlords did likewise.
Grumps & Lady C are right ring the council about the overhanging bushes.
If you google just about any council their “contact us” email address will be on their home page or, in the case of Knox, even on the google result.
Yes Lady Chaos, all Councils have the requirement, not just a policy to keep footpaths clear, and it is a responsibility of the home owner/occupier to make sure it is clear.
Thank goodness I weeded the front garden only last month within an inch of its life over three days….No longer the pleasurable past time of my youthful days - now it is a chore. I could pay someone to do it I know…but it seems to me they don’t actually put the roots out of the ground,
Just yesterday a ninety year old lady was making similiar statements on my blog, so you’re not alone. She too worried she’d be seen as “whinging” but the reality is that if you make your garden pleasant for passerbys to view, then to some extent at least others could return th compliment!…
Personally from my experience I think it doesn’t matter about whether a property is rented or not…Some people simply don’t care about something that doesn’t make money or operate without a remote control….
Is there ever an “unconstructive” whinge?
oh yeah………..some whinges just drone on and on and on and on………..with no point at all, but just to ………well, whinge !
