Beggars Belief.
Published 1 year, 3 months ago in My life.Had a phone call from my friend tonight. She told me she went out clubbing on saturday night with a friend and had her drink spiked. Weather its the fact she is in her 30’s, or that she has a couple of young sons, that she thought she was immune?? But she says stupidly, she bought herself and her friend a couple of champers, then put it on the floor beside a chair ( I’m assuming no tables) And off they went to dance. She consumed her drink when they came back and within 5 minutes was displaying signs of being legless. Her friend got annoyed that she had got drunk so fast, hailed a taxi, took her home( to the friends house) then left her there passed out. My friend woke up 5 hours later, stiff as a board, with a terrible metalic taste in her mouth. Then proceeded to have vomiting and diareah for the next few hours. She called her husband to come and get her. And of course has vowed and declared never ever to go clubbing again. She is haunted by the thought that someone put that in her drink and then hung around to watch! Not a nice thought by any means. But, I cant believe, that in this day and age, where we know this goes on, that her friend didn’t pick up on the signs. That she dumped her on a bed, where she could have had any number of things go wrong, and left her to go out partying once again so her night was ruined. She would be off my xmas card list thats for sure. And of course, I am disgusted by the sicko who gets his jollies out of doing this. How desperate are things nowadays that this is what is resorted to??? A harsh lesson for sure. .

I know its no laughing matter and I sympathise with your friend but…..
some people spend a fortune getting blotto and yet it seems you can get off your face with just a few drops of something in your bubbly.
What is this stuff and where can you buy it ?
It’s a scary thing and unfortunately on the increase and it’s not only women who are targeted. I know it’s hard to catch the perpetrators but there should be a significant increases in penalties for those that do get caught.
I agree her friend was stupid & thoughtless. One way to protect against this sort of thing is for people to be aware, watch out for each other and provide support if something happens.
I always wondered by people put themselves into danger by going into seedy night clubs anyhow.
A much younger male friend of mine, a professional photographer, told me he takes his drink into the toilet cubicle with him every time.
With the Strobe Lightning causing possible epiliesy, being pressured to buy drugs containing rat poison among other dubious ingredients, getting shot, knifed, bashed by a bouncer or hit by a car…..So many crimes take place around night clubs!
All good reasons to stay away.
However, I am very pleased your friend survived her experience. She could have suffocated on her own vomit!…..And she surely appreciates her very understanding husband even more than before she walked out the door to go clubbing!
Mary, Night clubs are not all dark and seedy places. Of the hundreds of people that go every week, This happens to a minority. Somehow it needs to be seriously addressed though.
My friends hubby appreciates the fact that she is safe and that no long term serious harm has come to her. She is house bound with kids as well as holds a job, so was deserving of a night out dancing with the girls!!
Point taken - I just go along with the news headlines they make every week somewhere in Melbourne. Like crossing the street we do so, because the risks of injury are rare.
I can’t get passed the case of Mrs Brimble who went on a cruise, and was poisoned, raped and left to die after having a girls night out. Is it worth the risk? Without male protection women are vulnerable at a number of levels.
By all means your friend needs and deserves a break from the chores of home duties, But it is about the choices we make where drugs, alcohol and strangers don’t always make a good mix.
I remember well climbing out of bed at 3 am to rescue my grown daughter from such an experience many years ago. Perhaps that was what I was subconsiously remembering this morning….
Mary, I too, was absolutely horrified at the Diane Brimble case, and followed it in the news. Sad to think she thought she had protection of quite a few males that night. And once again another layer of womens innocence is stripped and we are made more cynical by the day. But, we shouldn’t have to stop enjoying ourselves…We just have to make good choices as you say.
