Dont stooge me !!!!!

a favorite memory, that flashes to the surface when prompted is as a child with my three siblings walking home from shopping with my mum pushing the jeep, and we were allowed to get the minimum of chips each which was 10 cents. They gave us our individual parcels and we ripped a hole in the end……and life was good.

Years have passed and the minimum of chips is no longer 10c . Fair enough- potatoes have certainly gone up in price over the years, as has labour, cooking oil, electricity, insurance and all those other nasty hidden costs that small business have to pay. I know too well how things need to be costed these days.

The minimum of chips is now $2.50 I dont dispute this, its worth every cent ( especially if it gets me out of cooking)  My problem is this……..the minimum quantity of chips is shrinking.  I cant deal with this. My son tells me to just buy more!  But my point is, the minimum chips shouldn’t change in volume. If the price needs to go up- by all means put it up, I will gladly pay it, But dont give me a half serve. The minimum should be the minimum, year in year out, dearer granted, but the same amount of chips………anyone agree with me??  Golly, the toilet paper company is theiving 60 sheets out of my roll, the coffee company has nicked 50 grams out of my bottle and now the fish and chip man is giving me a half serve, do they really think we dont notice?

I actually think it’s good that the minimum chips has gone down… some people might not be able to eat a lot in one go, and it’s either pay for and get way too much at the fish ‘n’ chip shop, or go to McDonalds where they will give you a smaller serving. That way the people who like a lot of chips can still get a lot, they just order 2 minimum servings, where as those who can’t eat as many don’t have to pay for heaps of them and then throw them out. But I see what you mean… there’s no excuse for that with toilet paper… :S

I notice, the ever shrinking size of products makes my blood boil.

We are getting hit twice first when a product goes up in price then add to that the size has gone down and we’re really being screwed. If you calculated that combined effect per gram or whatever, people would be shocked by the true percentage of price rises.

I believe the government should standardise the size of all products to put paid to this double dipping by companies. I doubt they would do it though as it would also show the true cost of inflation.

Don’t let companies think that you don’t notice ring them and ask for a please explain, boycott their products even. (I’m always boycotting products & companies for various reasons).

Maybe we should be lobbying our pollies about it too, ‘cos it affects all of us nearly ever time we shop. Perhaps Mary could start a campaign for us, I reckon she’s got cage rattling down to a fine art.

Good plan Viv !!! C’mon Mary……..doesn’t it drive you crazy when your recipe calls for 440 grm of tomato soup and theyve nicked 40 grm out of your can !!! Or you go to make a tuna casserole where once you had to use a pick to get the tuna out of the can, now you have to do a sea search in the brine to find the chunks ?????

Maybe we’re just bigger so the serve seems smaller? I know, I’m drawing a long bow.
